My name is Mrs Kaur and I am the teacher in Pandas Class, I also lead key stage 1 and phonics at Hillside. All children have settled really well and are enjoying learning phonics, reading, writing, Maths, Science, History, Geography, PE, Art along with RE and PSHE.

I believe that 'reading is the key to learning' and 'practice makes perfect'. In Pandas, we are also learning about the importance of having a 'growth mindset'. Together, we will 'Believe, Achieve and Succeed!'

If you have any queries or concerns, please contact me on Seesaw or email on

Our Spring topic is Man on the Moon

We created these amazing self-portraits before half term. We believe that we are all unique and celebrate our diversity.

In Autumn term, we learned about the Great fire of London and children loved creating these silhouettes as part of their Art and Design curriculum.

Pandas is our year 1 and 2 class, supported by Teaching Assistant Miss Wells, Mrs Wilson and Miss North.

The morning session starts at 8.30am until 11.45pm and the afternoon session starts at 12.45pm and finishes at 3.15pm to allow staggered start and finish at the start /end of the day due to Covid19.

In a morning, the children are taught the core subjects of English and Mathematics. During these sessions, the children can work either as a whole class, in small groups, or 1:1 with an adult.

During the afternoon session, the children undertake topic related work which covers subjects such as history, geography, science, PE, music and art. These topics change on a termly basis.

Whilst Covid-19 restrictions are in place, please come to school in your full PE kit on PE days (Tuesdays and Thursdays) - do not wear school uniform.

At Hillside, we love reading. We believe it is essential to our children's learning as it helps them to develop language skills and increases their knowledge of the world around them. Children will change their home reading books in the morning at 8.50 and complete their reading diary at home once routines are established. Children are expected to read at home each evening and should return their home reading diary on a regular basis so that it can be monitored by the class teacher.

Homework is given out on Fridays and should be completed and returned by the following Tuesday. If it is returned late, it might not be marked. Homework includes a list of spellings to be learnt and either an English or Mathematics activity. We will be using virtual learning environment (VLE) in September and children will be trained to access these sites/programs/apps in ICT lessons.

There will be no educational visits until further notice this year.

Online learning and homework for Pandas Class

We use White Rose schemes of work for Maths and set online homework using MyMaths. We also use Active Learn to set online Phonics and Reading activities for our pupils. Due to Covid19 and under new guidance for schools, it is highly likely that homework will be set using online resources in September.
