           Pandas Class

My name is Mrs Kaur and I am the teacher in Pandas Class, I also lead key stage 1 and phonics at Hillside. I am really looking forward to seeing you all in September and assure you that you will have lots of fun in Pandas Class while learning, making new friends and exploring new subjects and topics. I believe that 'reading is the key to learning' and 'practice makes perfect'. In Pandas, you will also be learning about the importance of having a 'growth mindset'. Together, we will 'Believe, Achieve and Succeed!'

Pandas is our year 1 and 2 class. Mrs Kaur is the class teacher, supported by Teaching Assistant Miss Wells, Mrs Wilson and Mrs North.

The morning session starts at 8.50am until 12.00pm and the afternoon session starts at 1.00pm and finishes at 3.15pm.

In a morning, the children are taught the core subjects of English and Mathematics. During these sessions, the children can work either as a whole class, in small groups, or 1:1 with an adult.

During the afternoon session, the children undertake topic related work which covers subjects such as history, geography, science, PE, music and art. These topics change on a termly basis.

Whilst Covid-19 restrictions are in place, please come to school in your full PE kit on PE days - do not wear school uniform.

At Hillside, we love reading. We believe it is essential to our children's learning as it helps them to develop language skills and increases their knowledge of the world around them. Children will change their home reading books in the morning at 8.50 and complete their reading diary at home once routines are established. Children are expected to read at home each evening and should return their home reading diary on a regular basis so that it can be monitored by the class teacher.

Homework is given out on Fridays and should be completed and returned by the following Tuesday. If it is returned late, it might not be marked. Homework includes a list of spellings to be learnt and either an English or Mathematics activity. We will be using virtual learning environment (VLE) in September and children will be trained to access these sites/programs/apps in ICT lessons.

The children in Pandas class have regular educational visits which may vary according to the topic being studied. All KS1  children go to pantomime each year and have a summer trip at the end of the year.

Online learning and homework for Pandas Class

We use White Rose schemes of work for Maths and set online homework using MyMaths. We also use Active Learn to set online Phonics and Reading activities for our pupils. Due to Covid19 and under new guidance for schools, it is highly likely that homework will be set using online resources in September.
